Not so tomboy after all

I had the utmost privilege to photograph Jay, a registered and certified personal trainer/fitness instructor also a force to be reckoned with on the squash courts (South African Junior and Senior colours). Hair up in a pony, shorts/three quarter pants and a shirt, a touch of foundation, bit of mascara and perhaps a splash of colour on her lips (for a special occasion) and this gal is on the go. Being the self proclaimed tomboy she is, all this "faffing" was a first for her.
During the pre-shoot consult we decide on a casual singlet and jeans, and to glam it up just a tad with the black lace bra. The aim was to start with a couple of casual shoots to make her feel relaxed and smiling naturally, which is hard when you're staring down a photographers lens, reflectors up in your face and an assistant fixing everything from make-up to hair to wardrobe between clicks :)
The backlit lingerie images are some of my absolute favourites. It was an extremely bright summers morning and the light was just streaming into the studio. I used my backdrop stands and some old tattered net curtains to diffuse the sunlight and we shot a series of images here that left me totally speechless.
Usually when the client/model ;) is keen I like to push the boundaries of my comfort zone a bit, and often with ABSOLUTE winners like these! We were going to shoot this outfit on a black/grey background but instead decided last minute to use the raw brick wall in my garage. I wanted moody, dark, hauntingly beautiful images in this dress, and Jay may I say, you rocked the shot!
